Spot Awards... pretty much the Grammy's of Oklahoma and a big/not big deal depending on how you look at it. I am very proud of The Dustin Pittsley Band for their much deserved win as well as Jessie's for singer/songwriter. My good friend Susan did a fantastic job opening the show and I was pretty happy to see Carl smiling his ass off drumming with his band Down for Five... They were all the way on.
Right after DPB accepted the award we headed to the VFW for them to compete in the Tulsa Blues Society Blues challenge and they took third bringing home what looked like a huge bowling trophy for someones mantle. Little Joe and his band won, but we all knew that would happen as soon as we heard they were in the competition. Little Joe is a traditional blues player and I think that's what the Blues Society was looking for this year. I have tremendous respect for Joe, his band, and how he stays true to the simple Delta blues style that he plays. Honestly I am thrilled he won because that means I wont be making coffeepot hot dogs in Memphis come January.
Donnie practiced a acceptance speech for the Spot Award all night that included thanking his pubic hair and the cat, or the alternate of "I want to thank NO ONE" but in the end didn't say a word and stood there with a goofy smile on his face.
I'm just happy. The guys deserved it, I love them all and I want them all to be happy. I think Dustin is a phenominal songwriter and performer and Donnie and Doug are perfect holding it all together.
For me (and Amber & Katy I am assuming) the award is a small reminder that the nights alone with our husbands out on the road are worth it. Sometimes it's hard to send them out when you would just rather snuggle up with the cats, kids, and the man you love.
One more thing about DPB... They Fucking Rock.
