YPB Halloween Party

The YPB have offered me a few cool opportunities lately...first the 100 ideas for Oklahoma meeting I went to a week or so ago and then this one yesterday.... Volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club for the Halloween party.
It didn't take more than 3 hours... I had fun and the kids had a great time! We had all kinds of treats, pizza, and games for the kids to play. Ring toss, putt putt golf, bowling games....my station was wrapping kids in toilet paper to make them mummies. Just about every kid ripped the TP right off as soon as it was done and there was a huge pile of tp on the floor. It was great teasing the kids and making them laugh, and I felt good about giving back to the community.

Folk Dancing

The other night I went to my meditation class and it turned out that there was a folk dancing class going on at the same time. As I am sure you can empathize, it is very difficult to concentrate on spinning your chakras with live music, dancing, laughing in the building. To compound the situation a few of my favorite freinds were in there having a good time, AND they had a mandolin and stand up bass going on. I happen to be a real sucker for those instruments... Needless to say, at the end of the class we all headed over to the folk dancing and tried it out. It was so much fun! I never would have guessed I would have liked it so much.

Now I am hooked.

I was married to a very boring man once and it lead to alot of trouble for me. He wasn't even a good man who happened to be uninteresting, but he was a meanie too. I'm so happy thats over.

Just look at my precious as he plays his bass. He is so cute. All those faces he makes onstage, he's adorable because he doesn't even know he is doing it. He probably thinks he looks cool, but when I see him doing the blinking thing I just want to squeeze him and protect his tender soul from the world.

Then he gets off stage and I realize he is a terrible pain in the ass.

It doesn't matter how big a pain he is though. I am eternally devoted to this man, and the best thing about him? He will never, ever be boring.

Jessie Aycock wins the 2007 Spot Award for Singer/songwriter.

DPB at the Spot Awards.

Spot Awards... pretty much the Grammy's of Oklahoma and a big/not big deal depending on how you look at it. I am very proud of The Dustin Pittsley Band for their much deserved win as well as Jessie's for singer/songwriter. My good friend Susan did a fantastic job opening the show and I was pretty happy to see Carl smiling his ass off drumming with his band Down for Five... They were all the way on.

Right after DPB accepted the award we headed to the VFW for them to compete in the Tulsa Blues Society Blues challenge and they took third bringing home what looked like a huge bowling trophy for someones mantle. Little Joe and his band won, but we all knew that would happen as soon as we heard they were in the competition. Little Joe is a traditional blues player and I think that's what the Blues Society was looking for this year. I have tremendous respect for Joe, his band, and how he stays true to the simple Delta blues style that he plays. Honestly I am thrilled he won because that means I wont be making coffeepot hot dogs in Memphis come January.

Donnie practiced a acceptance speech for the Spot Award all night that included thanking his pubic hair and the cat, or the alternate of "I want to thank NO ONE" but in the end didn't say a word and stood there with a goofy smile on his face.

I'm just happy. The guys deserved it, I love them all and I want them all to be happy. I think Dustin is a phenominal songwriter and performer and Donnie and Doug are perfect holding it all together.

For me (and Amber & Katy I am assuming) the award is a small reminder that the nights alone with our husbands out on the road are worth it. Sometimes it's hard to send them out when you would just rather snuggle up with the cats, kids, and the man you love.

One more thing about DPB... They Fucking Rock.
